Another Headlight Problem: Advanced
I have a 97 1.8T quattro auto and this is my 3rd headlight switch that i've replaced b/c the lowbeams went out. i'll start from the beginning. 3 months ago, i had the headlight switch replaced and it everything worked. a week before that, my ignition switch went bad and the key wouldn't spring back after turning the car over so i had to turn it back myself. so that we no biggie. this past saturday, my headlight switch went out again and i was thinking that the two switches would be inner-related some how. so i replaced both the headlight and the ignition switches and still no headlight low beams. the highbeams have always worked. i checked the fuses (20, 21) and they are not blown. so next i put a volt meter to check if they were getting power and they were not. went up onto the headlights themselves and the meter was zero up there also. i then turned on my highbeams w/ my lowbeams on and jumped power from the fuses of the highbeams to the lowbeams and they did work (19 to 20 and 19 to 21). so the new switch is obviously good, but there is something between the switch and the fuse that is interupting the signal to power on the lowbeams. Possible relays? please help?!?

are you getting power at the light switch.....
the power input for the switch? there seem to be some connectors in the wiring harness that may have been pulled apart. these are seperate for each funtion.

i'm think that i am...
when i turn on the highbeams and the lowbeams and have the highbeams in the lock position, the highbeams are the only thing that come one. So i jump power at the fuse box from the highbeam fuse to the lowbeam and they end up working. do u know which wires are the lowbeam wires at the wiring harness connected to the light switch stalk?

Did you ever solve this problem? I have the exact same symptoms. When I jump my fuses from the high beams to the low beams, the low beam fuse gets alarmingly hot. Do you get this same issue?
