Another headlight switch problem???
My buddy has a 98 A4 Avant. The other day he lost his parking lights, blinkers, headlights, and his wipers?? He got home by pulling on the headlight switch and used his high-beams to get home.Sifting through the archives this sounds like the common headlight switch problem? Not sure it explains the wiper problem though. Where is the cheapest place to get a replacement switch and how difficult is it to remove/replace it. Will a Bentley manual be needed, or is it a straightfoward task. He also sounds like he could benefit from a relay modification.I read that there's a write up in the FAQ. Can someone provide the link to that as I can't find it.? Thanks in advance.

Definitely get a Bentley manual. I've replaced the switch on our 00 30v and its not straight forward. You'll need to remove the airbag , steering wheel, and disconnect the battery(not all in that order). There is a multi-point socket(torx) needed to remove the steering wheel.
I would check the circut first but yes, the valeo headlight switches are pretty much garbage so its probably gone south. The aftermarket people gave me the same price on the switch as the dealer.

Been through three (3) headlight switches on my 98.5 Avant....
Paid the dealer for the first one...the second two were on them as they both went within 12 months of the install (work/parts warranty = 12 months).
This time they "put there best guy on it" and said he found a short in the wiring and thatbthey fixed it. That cost me $90. (1 hr).
Let's hope this is the last one.
