Anti-Theft on 2000 A4 ?
Could anyone tell me what is the anti-theft system on the 2000 A4?
Does it only make an alarm noise, or is there a kill switch for the ignition?
On my current car (not Audi), I had installed a kill switch which
requires me to push a button hidden under the carpeting to start the car.
Is the A4's anti-theft equivalent to this (in terms of security)?
Yes, I've checked the archives.
Thanks

Some people have said different, but (more)
on my car 98.5 2.8 I parked it but left the windows down, armed the alarm, waited 30 secs for it to arm. Reached in and opened door from inside door handle. The alarm started sounding and I tried to put my key in the ignition and start it, but it would not crank the starter until I disarmed the system with my remote.
I'm not sure about everyone's car, because some have said that the A4 does not have starter disabler. All I can tell you is mine does, but you can test it yourself.

Re: Anti-Theft on 2000 A4 ?
Patrick,
I'd venture to guess the Anti-Theft on a 2000 A-4 to be far superior to any system you could have installed your self. First off your self installed system can be triggered or bypassed. The factory system will not allow the car to be started with the key. The key is a special laser cut that is VERY HARD to duplicate. Also, I believe the new 2000s also have an electronicly coded key, not only cut to fit the tumblers, but the car won't start unless the theif uses "The" key. It can still be towed or stollen by a X with a coded key though.

I posted the same answers before concerning a stolen A4
But I'm curious on what year they started doing this because it's not only the 2000's because I know my 98 has it. Alarm installer asked me for one of my spare keys so he could stash it somewhere in the car that way the car could read the chip when I hit remote start. Too complicated I decided that I didn't want the remote start anymore. The alarm expert told me that there is almost no way you could start the car without a key. That's why I said before that they probably towed the car, but not jump start and drive it. The way I see it is that if they really want your car they will be able to take it no matter what. If anyone disagrees or thinks that I have been misinformed please respond Thanks
