Anyone ever taken their taillight apart?
I'm guessing that anyone who's done a smoked tail-lamp mod has, but I can't find an article. I want to do some custom light work inside my taillights and need to take them apart without ruining them (same for front turn signal (in one-piece HID housings) and side markers. Thoughts/suggestions? Anyone have spare taillights or OEM side markers they want to part with? Any links on how to take apart a taillight fixture?

I've taken them out before (the far nuts are kinda hard to reach)
I am interning at a company that makes LED arrow and message boards for highway construction(plus I have dabbled with LED's in a few past projects). I want to take apart my taillight housings and put some LED's in like the G35 has (w/ the same type of driver) and am not sure how long it will take (if I have to keep the taillights off of the car for more than a few hours) so I don't quite yet know if I'd need the housing (for an '01), so I'll let y ou know MyaLover, thanks. Qfrog, just curious, why did you take apart the housings and how well did they got back together (what did you use) and do they leak at all?

I've still got one that is opened up...
I used the typical xacto triangular shaped blade and used a screwdriver to tap it into the gap between the lens and the plastic focusing section... I went all the way round the edge of the housing and the lens just comes right off once the edge is separated.
to correctly implement LED tail lighting you would probably have to drill lots of small holes in the lamp for individual LEDs or make a PCB or 4 and use them to take the place fo the reflective/light focusing section of the housing.
I've taken apart A8L tails and they have tiny LEDs in what looks like a stalagtite maze to focus the narrow light distribution pattern of each individual LED. take a closer look next time you are near an A8L
