The fact you have no idea what you're talking about.

Default nope =) found what i was looking for

there is a difference in the locks. But you just swap your old one.

<img src="http://ctny.audiworld.com/mark/a4/diff/MVC042S.JPG">

It has to do with how far it sticks out. The handles are different between
1) 96 us 12v trunk lid
2) tdi trunk lid (euro)
3) U.S. trunk lid post 1997

It does just swap, but the locks are different. Also 96 cars didn't come with the ability to lock your doors from the trunk. So there is a bit more to swap.

It is a "direct" swap... but there is more to it then just bolting it on.

p.s. notice a difference between stating facts versus asking questions. I never claimed to be right, but I did remember reading there was something different about the locks (I was looking into a 96 trunk lid awhile ago)

Default I just don't understand AW's love affair with the '96 trunk. IMO the plate hanging out the bottom

...looks like a buck toof.

The US plate actually fits in the '97-

Default ...it looks really great....especially on the Avant as it gives more of RS4 appeal

yes I am kidding myself on the RS4 stuff but I do like the wider tray better...not for everyone though ;-)
