Anyone have a Custom Exhaust? more>>>
i have a 2000 tip A4 and i was wondering if it would be better and maybe cheaper to have a custom exhaust made at a muffler shop. if it would be better what specs should it be made to(ex.2 1/2 or 3" piping etc. how much would this cost?

I have a custom exhaust. It's 3" plumbing all the way back. It was built by...
TDL Racing, and I would recommend you giving them a call if you're anywhere near Detroit.
I did a ton of other mods in conjunction with the exhaust, and my suggestion would be that you keep the plumbing at 2.5" unless you plan on doing aftermarket headers, or other high-flow stuff.
The price for a custom exhaust is usually (surprisingly) cheaper than a pre-fab one. One of the few tradeoffs is that the muffler tips might not look as glitzy as some other mufflers out there (Oettinger, HKS, even APR). In fact, mine look like slightly oversized stock tips...but I like it that way. I have always preferred the subtle look. But as a point of reference, TDL sells their custom exhausts for between $750 and $1000, and I think their prices are pretty competitive with other places that do custom work.

Re: Several advantages to a custom exhaust....
I know that you can chose from a large selection of mufflers (TDL.Racing uses MagnaFlow) to fit your taste. You can also tailor the sound to your liking as well. One other option is the addition of high flow cats and down pipes to get the most power gains from your system, most pre made systems don't offer these options. Even if it ends up costing a little more you are getting it the way you want it.
