Default I've rebuilt an 01A transmission, and it was flawless afterwards.

What do you want to know?

Default ...well...

the tranny in there IS my 2nd 2.8 tranny...

is the s4 tranny better aside from the gear ratios?

for some reason I thought there was more fab needed?

Default To my knowledge, no

Its called "Take it apart, find what's broken, and replace it."

The 01A that I rebuilt needed both bearings on the output shaft (the one nearest the pinion gear was badly scored), and had a chipped tooth on 3rd gear on the input shaft. I replaced all those items, and filled it with fresh fluid. I drove it afterwards and it was like a new transmission.

Default Yes, on the former, maybe on the latter....

The transmission requires special tools and a press to properly disassemble and assemble.

Default Why you can get an S4 carrier for less than $200 from Car-Part in good condition. Would save a

whole lot of trouble. If you switch ring and pinion you need to replace the bearings, and re-shim the whole thing.<ul><li><a href="http://www.car-part.com">search carrier but know the diff code that you need.</a></li></ul>

Default Guard Transmission is where Stasis gets their diffs

I think the diff they use cost about 1300.

find a used 2.8 transmission. when I installed the 2.8 in my car it swapped right in. one side of the tras mount is the same for both the 2.8 and 1.8 and the other side different so just make sure you get the mounts included with the trans.<ul><li><a href="http://www.guardtransmission.com/lsd_info.htm">http://www.guardtransmission.com/lsd_info.htm</a</li></ul>

The dealer has the syncros for about $70. It's easy to rebuild.
