Anyone use remote start on their car. Manual/Tranny?

wouldn't advise it with a manual tranny... cuz
you would have to leave it outta gear at all times... which in my mind isn't the smartest of ways to park a car. The parking break is good to a certain extent, but wouldn't trust just that to hold the car in place. Also, if you were to accidently leave the car in gear, and start it... you'll end up putting yourself, your car, and anything surrounding it in danger.

I used to have one on my GLX Jetta
But I rigged up a saftey switch so that it would only remote start in gear.I used a micro lever switch mounted in such a way that when the stick was in the middle (neutral) the switch closed and the car can start.

Someone posted a while back about a remote starter/alarm in one unit.....
....this goes back a few months. But I think it was on the '02 forum, so maybe searching the archives for the info won't be too difficult if you want to investigate. I remember he posted the brand, and the website where info could be found. I remember it had like 1/4 mi. (max) range, which is fine for a remote starter but not great for a remote alarm. Installation involved some sort of defeat for the clutch-in safety feature, but I wasn't too interested in it so I never looked into the details.

**cringe** Guy at work remote started his Neon right through..
his garage door about a month ago. He's also remote started it: Across a parking lot-twice, and into the back of his roomates car-once. There's a reason they aren't really made for manual trannys. ;-)
