Default Anyone w/chipped A4 in Austin TX? (long)

I've been lurking as I'm thinking of ordering a new '00 A4 1.8tqms. After a test drive, I was somewhat underwhelmed by the engine (handling rules though!), so I was wondering if there is someone who has a chipped A4 in NW Austin that could show me how fast it is. I plan on chipping it after break-in, but probably won't upgrade the engine much more than that.

The reason I ask is that I'm a long time BMW driver who has become addicted to their in-line sixes (you have to admit, they are great engines). I don't want to go to a 2.8 as that puts me out of budget.

To top it off, I'm marginally considering a used M3 for around $25K as well ('95 with 35K miles). Now, I know its not a fair comparison, but I'd like to make sure I don't give up too much performance to get that new A4.

Please, no BMW flames. I'm a european car fanatic, I love them all (except Trabants!). The A4 is a fantastic car, and a much better value than a new BMW.

Thanks for any help!

PS-Is there a local Audi club meeting soon? I know there was one that used to hang out at Rudy's BBQ.

Centex VW/Audi Club meets every third Saturday at Rudy's North (not South anymore). You will find some chipped A4's there. Most have APR chips and a couple have the TAP chip. Come on out!

If you are interested in a 95 M3, my father has one with 32K miles on it in great shape. It is white with black leather + CD changer. He is considering selling it since he has lived abroad for the last 9 months and has not used it. The car is at his house in Houston. Email me at wmhen@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

Default Not a flame.....

I was advised to stay away from the 1st year of M3s for mechanical reasons....if I recollect accurately, I think that 95 was the first year for this model? Something to consider since you'll probably have no warranty.

Either was you go, enjoy your purchase. Both great cars!!

Default If you really must have an M3, look for 95-96 CANADIAN ones cuz they have 321HP Euro engine

I think....then BMW USA aquired the Canadian operations and brought the less powerful 240HP US versions into Canada...grummble grumble...

Fine car but many friends OWNED this M3 and have had many transmission/clutch changes....did you look at bimmer.org...

Only the 94 Canadian M3 had the euro spec motor with the 300+ hp.

Dave:

The San Antonio Audi group (STAG) are having a meeting next Saturday (Sept 11). Check their website (address below). I live in Austin, but enjoyed meeting with the San Antonio guys. I bought my 99.5 A4 2.8 Q (the yellow one) from Rod East in San Antonio, because of the appalling service from the Austin dealer during my ownership of my previous A4.
