No it should be fixed or stationary. I had a 1998 A6 that went off the road, hit a rock right under the fuel tank and broke the part that held the fuel pick up to the bottom of the tank. No visual clue on the outside of the fuel tank, no scratches or leaks. But the fuel pick up was then able to float up in the tank and suck air when there was still a half tank of fuel. Had to pull the pump and pick up out of the tank and replace the piece that held it to the bottom of the tank.

Sorry, no photos. I had to replace the bracket, not the pump. Can’t imagine glue working in a fuel tank. If you search the Audi parts houses you will likely find diagrams of the components inside the tank. You probably want to open the tank covers and look around before ordering parts. Carefully...
