Battery replacement?

Battery replacement?
The battery in my '98 1.8T is just about dead. Is this a normal lifespan? I thought that it had been cranking kinda slower the last few weeks, but this morning it barely started.
Anyway, I assume that the only place that would have a replacement is the dealer. I hate to pay their labor rates for something like this. Is there anything at all tricky about replacing the battery myself? Looks like it is just held in with a clamp at the base and would lift right out.

The only issue with not getting an exact size OEM battery is getting the battry clamps to fit properly. There are some creative ways to combat this so you rbattery doesn't slide around, and using a bungee cord is the easiest and most effective way IMO.
