Default beautiful weekend around chicago so i'll repost for the weekday crowd....

friday night and saturday i cleaned the crap out of my garage. the landlord had so much junk scattered about and the floor was practically dirt. those that helped demod the A4 know this for a fact! it's amazing how clean it is at the moment! nothing but stuff for me to work on my car is in there now
<img src="http://images4.fotki.com/v49/photos/5/51621/741357/32cleangarage-vi.jpg?1078007781">
i still have to put together my engine hoist. i'll be doing that sometime this weekend. i'll also be building some shelves that i can put my car supplies on and put up my shop lights so we can actually SEE what we're working on this time!

well, i finally started WORKING on my projekt car. saturday's order of buisness: ripping out the interior.
since previous to today, people only saw camera phone pics, i tried to take some new pictures with my real camera.

first, i wanted to concentrate on the interior, so i removed all the seats, seat belts, and carpeting. i love the stuff you find under there. pencils, screws, about $.73 in change, etc.
<img src="http://images5.fotki.com/v61/photos/5/51621/741357/11strippedinterior-vi.jpg?1078005820">
sometime during the week i'll be scrubbing and cleaning it.

i also actually LOOKED at the car since i had never really done that before. there are two real small dents. one on the driver's side door, another on the rear hatch. there is some very small surface rust on the rear hatch latch. the passenger side rear fender well also has a little bit of rust which i've heard is common. of course, underneath the carpeting and sound deadening material there was a bunch of surface rust, but from everyone's interior i've seen removed this is the norm. other than those small things, the car is in great shape. it definitely needs A LOT of TLC, but i'm really looking forward to detailing it, so i'm very pleased with my purchase thus far.

here's a picture of my new red harnesses to replace my old black ones as well as my new taillights.
<img src="http://images5.fotki.com/v60/photos/5/51621/741357/01seatharnesstaillights-vi.jpg?1078006960">
the headlights and a few other small items should be shipping shortly whenever the GB's are finished. i don't plan on putting them on now, but at least i'll have them.

i also thought i may as well make a new <a href="http://public.fotki.com/mdwsta4/pictures_of_my_car/mk2_projekt_gti/">photo album</a> on fotki to keep track of my progress. i stopped at my parent's to upload some pictures, but they have dial up and it's taking way too long so i only did a few (i need a damn computer of my own at my house!). i'll try to get the rest up this week at work.

i was also thinking of more new license plate ideas for the car. i hate how IL has to have spaces between numbers and letters.
A 2 TURBO
NO GO A 2
KRAUT A 2, or just KRAUT

i'd like to incorporate A2 or MK2 or something about turbo's in the plate. i'm not getting plates until the car is actually running, but it's never too early to start thinking :-)
and anyone that is bored one day and up near my neck of the woods, you're more than welcome to swing by and grab a wrench. hee hee. i moved the car into my garage yesterday and should be taking off the rest of the front end during the week. i hope to start with the new engine in about 3 weeks.

cheers,
matt

Default Oh lame.

If Chicago doesn't show this trip is going to blow.

I could go to bars up here and get trashed with all of the people heading to the BBQ from NYC metro instead of travelling to Auburn.

Default nah. i was going to clean it, but there was a vw meet so i went to that instead.

it was good seeing people i havent seen in a while, but car meets are just lame. you sit there for a few minutes and then you get bored. it's even less fun when you don't have a modded car!
