Beware. Cleaning stock 1.8 mags is enough to make you want hubcaps.

I left it for a while and now there all stained and it won't come off...and I bought a silver A4 so I wouldn't need to wash so often.

You need to change pads. I have Mintex and I never clean rims now!

How long did you let it go?
I've gone up to a month without cleaning my wheels (usually clean weekly), and P21S and a sponge cleaned them right up with very little effort (2-3 minutes per wheel)...spray on, hose off, wipe with wet sponge (the dirtier they are, the more you need to rinse the sponge to keep it clean). If you clean them weekly it's a very easy process.
Regards,

I use wheel cleaner and a soft brush...
a fireplace brush, it has really soft bristles for cleaning up soot. I hose the wheel, spray the cleaner on, brush it, then rinse. I don't like leaving the cleaner on as they can be rough so I don't let it stand. Takes less than a minute a wheel.

What to do if you =can't= wash?
I've had my car almost a week now, and I noticed tonight all of the brake dust around my nice new wheels. I live at an apartment complex where we aren't allowed to wash our cars (although people do, occasionally).
Thankfully, I'm going away for a couple of days, and the place I take my car to (park and ride) will hand detail the car for me, so I can take care of it this week.....(the dealer didn't do the greatest wash/wax job anyways!)
Thoughts on what to do going forward?
Ruth

Move somewhere with a garage
I used to wash my car when I lived in an apartment complex, even though it was probably against the rules. Now I live in a flat with a garage for my A4 and motorcycle. It's SO much nicer that way - I can work on my vehicles and wash them at will.
Next time you move, just make sure you get a garage / washing space.
