Default Blown turbo, broken control rod, waste gate? HELP!

I have a 98 1.8T with 30k. I think the turbo stopped functioning last week. I am taking the performance chip out, putting the original one back in and taking it to the dealership. I have 5 year 50k limited warranty. Should I expect any trouble getting it covered under warranty?

Do they ever get into the ECU box?

They don't have to.....They can sniff the chip using their VAG, but they have to be looking for it..

Default If the wastegate rod is broken, I see no reason why they would suspect the ECU.

it is a mechanical failure caused presumeably by a poor design.

Default My car with 73k miles is getting turbo replaced today...

My warranty ran out in April of this year on my 98.5. AUDI customer service advocate couldn't do anything for me, so I'm throwing down about $700 parts and labor plus $800 for a new K04. Your lucky you have a warranty, I got shafted. Just venting, but I hope it goes well for you.

Default My turbo was replaced for no charge...

...even though I was a bit more than one month (but with only 45,000 miles) out of warranty. You should have no problems, especially if it is the (relatively) common wastegate failure which was the case with my car.

Good luck!

Cheers,

as long as you clear the low voltage dtc and the workshop code is correct, there is nothing to sniff

Default JUST DENY THAT YOU HAVE A CHIP...

I was told that the only way for them to find the "chip" is if they send the ECU to Germany and have the engineers examine the binary code
