Default blown turbo? Is it safe to drive the car like this?

Just drove home from work.....no boost...when I let off the guess I get a "clink clink" sound instead of the usual pshhhhh ....

Just installed TT DV. could some hoses have come undone? engine bay is too hot, havn't taken a look there yet

so is it safe to drive the car like this for a few weeks?

regards,
Liam

Default Having JUST gone through the turbo replacement thing...

...that sounds like you may have a broken wastegate rod. That is what happened to mine and I had similar symptoms.

It won't hurt to drive the car around, it just won't go anywhere too fast.

What year is your car? My turbo was replaced under warranty, even though I was just out (less than 2 months, but still under 50K miles)

Good luck!

Cheers,

Default So they had to replace the entire turbo because of the rod?

Sorry, I'm not too familiar with the turbo internals.

what exactly were your symptoms?

thanks alot for the quick response,

regards,
Liam

ps. my car is a 98 with 80k miles on it..no more warranty..

Default That seems to be the way AOA does it.

I have been told, however, that the wastegate can be replaced separately though I can't speak to the accuracy of that claim.

Default No turbo

Mine just went out on me last week. It's sitting in the shop now waiting for parts. They said that it was fine to drive, but just loss of power. I said, "Fix the car, then I'll drive it."

I'm still trying to find someone to install it though.

How much is the full kit? I'm being estimated around $800 for full turbo kit (K03) and $1K in labor

Default broken wastegate rod is a common cause, or your vaccum line to the bpv wasnt doing its job

congrats with the k04!
