"Don't wax it for at least a month.. allows the paint to 'harden'
actually, you can just keep a good polish on and never wax it"

Default Dont use wax, just use IHG or something that contains NO wax, it will look great..

The wax effects teh way the paint cures. Dont do it.

Default Body shop told me the same thing...

I can wash it, but no polish or wax for 30 days.

If they baked it, you can use something like IHG, but be careful. The paint is still a little soft.

Default If we're talking about fresh paint from a repair, I sure wouldn't use IHG on it either.

If the paint still hasn't cured from being applied as part of a repair, I sure as hell wouldn't risk messing it up with hand glaze. If the body shop said wait a month, then wait a month. No reason why this should "scare" you. Paint does need time to cure. Thereafter I'd give it a gentle wash and use a good quality wax to protect it. NO glaze.

Default IMHO it is total BS. With todays water based paints this is no longer an issue

My guy said exactly the opposite. He said, "don't worry, you can wax it now as these new paints don't require the hardening time of older non-water based paints". Most shops have a clean room to paint/bake the paint.

Default Funny, the body shop will have used a non wax polish on it. The problem is that the wax will prevent

the paint from curing properly. IHG won't, worst thing you will do is CUASE fine scratches. But that is unlikely with something fine like IHG. I am not really debating this, as a 'fresh' repair should not need anything for a while anyway.

Default This is also true. But Water based paints? I thought only the factory used that?

My guys don't.

Default If it's fresh paint, just wait a month....

I was told the same thing when I was getting an estimate to get some things done. I was talking about getting the car detailed, and they said I would have to wait at least a month after painting before detailing.

Is it worth messing it up?
