borla/cat problems with non-Tip A4
Has anyone had problems with the Borla cat-back system in non-Tip A4's? I've seen a few posts about the downpipe breaking off at the cat flange, but they mostly looked like Tiptronic version problems. I am just wondering if the stock hangers sufficiently support the weight for the non-Tip configuration.

People have even had problems with STOCK exhausts.
Mine broke about 20K after installing a Borla....coincidence? I don't know really. Several people with stock exhausts have broken cats at around 80=100K, so it might've just been time for mine to go. I'm not so sure it's even the hangers that are guilty....it's just a poorly designed cat to flange connection. Good luck

heres is the problem.
It's a flaw on Audi's behalf.
Just like many other things on the car over the model years this part is subject to the same issue.
During production the parts are basically the same, only Audi decides to slightly shift everything around from model year to model year. Making it extremely hard for aftermarket manafacturers to come out with univeral parts.
The Downpipe hangar is one of these items, from 97-01 the downpipe hangar on some cars is missing all together, othertimes it lines up perfectly, and than theres other people who are in the grey zone.
This is also accurate for the little tabs on the footwell for the floormats, companies who make aftermarket floormats cant put holes in the carpets becuase Audi keeps changing the points around.
Most companies will replace it out and supply you with a new one.
I know some companies out there go as far as to custom flame cut their own thicker flanges so incidences like this dont happen, but people dont pay attention to details and just want a good deal on stuff.
