Default Brake Pedal Fade

Hello Everyone!

My wife's '96 2.8 A4Q is having problems.
When I push in the brake I get stopping power, but it fades as if I'm losing the power and going to manual brakes.
Are vacuum boosters a common failure in 96's?
I did notice that with the car off, if I rotated the vacuum line going to the booster, I could hear it bleed. But with my wife pushing the brake pedal in (Car running) I couldn't hear any bleed by at the booster.

Any help would be appreciated,

Andrew

check your vacuum first, otherwise it's booster.

Is it a common problem?
Vacuum seems to store quite well in the booster. Some 18 hours later when I wiggled the vacuum line to the booster, I still heard hissing.
Are these hard to replace? Couldn't find a tech article on it.

Anyone?

TIA
Andrew

Default though when was it replaced last? Should be done every two years no matter what, as the manual

suggests, since it absorbs water. Fairly simple thing to do which could save you a trip and money to the dealer.

Just a thought!

bleed your brakes? i had a sloppy pedal for a little bit after i changed my rotors and pads, i bled the whole system ended up added all new fluid, dot 5. still had a smooshy pedal. did some searching found the check valve that goes to the brake booster was cracked. 42$ for the whole pipe that runs from the intake manifold to the booster through that bulkhead... works great now...hope it helps.
