Brake pedal goes to the floor.
This morning on the way to work my brake pedal basically went to the floor. I could still stop but it was pretty scary. If i pumped the brakes a couple of times it would get stiff again but once i went to stop again a bit later it would go to the floor again. Anyone have any ideas. I just put new pads and rotors on about 6 months ago. Its a 98 quatro 1.8t manual.

After you pumped the pedal...did the system hold pressure, or did the
pedal gradually get soft (sink to the floor) as you were braking?
If the pedal went soft, I would suspect a leak in the system. If they pedal didn't go soft after pumping, it might be a bad master cylinder.

it would hold pressure while i was in traffic, once we got moving again, and tried to brake a couple of mins later i had to repump it. This happened once about a year ago but it only did it when i was pulling into my driveway and never happened since then

Check for visible leaks near the master, lines, and calipers
If fluid isn't leaking from the system, a bad master cylinder is the most likely culprit.
How does the fluid level look?

Check to see if there are any leaks up at the master/booster cyl. Its also worth checking the hoses and calipers. These cars are getting to the age where some of the above mentioned components are having issues. We had a similar problem with our 00 30v awhile back and I changed out both the brake master & booster(problem solved). The boosters are particularly poor on these cars. The vac lines need to be watched , as they have a tendency to leak at the junctions.
Just an fyi, if you intend on DIYing the booster, you'll need audi tool #t10006a(in pic).
