Brake problem??
<center><img src="http://www.mevin327.com/images/DCP_0889_small.JPG"></center><p>I have a 99 A4 2.8, and for a few months I've noticed the breaks feel like they are slipping.. it's hard to describe - when coming to a complete stop, say at a parking spot, I press the break normally, and when I apply the normal pressure to make the car come to a complete stop the car keeps going for a few inches.. and lately I've noticed that when i notice it "slipping" if I press harder on the break i can hear the ABS come on and it won't turn off until I let up on the breaks - even though by then i am at a complete stop... what's going on?? I took it to the dealer a few months ago when the problem started.. but it wasn't as bad then as it is now.. And they couldn't find a problem..

When you say you feel the ABS come on, do you mean you get a sudden kick back in the pedal? And is it accompanied by a strange sound, like a spring "boinging"? And does this only happen at low speeds, like at parking or at a stop light? This is what's happening with my 96 and I can't figure it out either. But I thought you might enjoy company.

By the way - they're called "brakes" (must be graduate of a liberal school) ....
Now, as to problem. Like some of the others said, need more info - like
a) is it happening in the wet only?
b) does this occur even when driving on the highway - no brakes for a second or so after initil application?
If "yes" to both, you have the classic wet braking delay problem I feel - do an archive search. You hit the brakes, for 1-2 seconds you get nothing, then brakes come on normally. Your reaction might be on initial brake application you notice nothing, so you hit the brake harder. Possibly then the ABS kicks in momentarily due to different braking forces front and rear (think I noticed this once or twice during my wet braking delay days when I had to make a fast stop in the pouring rain).
Now, if this is happening in the dry, and only happens when you are coming into a parking spot and completely stopping - but at speed braking is OK - then I am at a loss.
Does brake pedal initially feel spongy when you first step on it, then on second brake application feel normal? Could be a master cylinder dying.
As the old saying goes, "Need input!"

the fix for your wet weather stopping problems is to go to the dealer and get the updated front rotor backing plates[it's a actual backing plate],been putting them on all a4's that don't have them and it's night and day.get them put in

No, it dosen't seem to be a problem that only happens when it's wet out - pretty much happens any time.
As far as coming to a stop - I would say at first it feels like it is stopping at a normal rate - then i push harder to slow down to a complete stop - and that's where it slipps. If i continue to press down at this point i don't feel any jerking, but hear the ABS motor come on.

has anyone opened up the hydraulic system[caliper replacement,pump replacement,etc.]?has anyone done rear brakes to the car and pushed the rear pistons in instead of turning them in?how much pedal free play is there?is there a stain on the power booster trailing down from under the master cylinder where the cylinder bolts to the booster?
