I've had good luck "breaking in" pads to avoid squeals. You can read about in the link below. The 0 - 40 mph stops are what I focus on. In addition to what they say, it wears the brake pads on the "leading" edge due to caliper flexing on hard braking. With the "leading" edge more worn, the trailing edge will contact first which is good. If the leading edge hits first, the brakes will squeal. Try in on a bicycle to see what I mean.
