Brakes and Rotors will need replacing soon, considering A8 brake upgrade....some questions
-For A8 Calipers, Rotors, and pads, all the way around the car, what am I looking at for parts cost? Any sites I can look at, or hit up the dealer? My thought process here is that if I'm gonna do this brake work regardless, I wouldn't mind dropping another $100 or 2 on something better/bigger.
-Are these gonna bolt on/plug n play onto a 96 FWD A4, or will fabrication be required?
-If there is fabrication required, how complicated is it?
-Will they fit inside of the stock 16" 5-spoke (hotwheels) Wheels?
-I do plan on bringing this work to an independant mechanic, I don't want to mess with bleeding the brakes myself, etc. Is there any other information that I should give them when I hand them a pile of A8 Brake Parts?
Thanks a bunch!

Don't do A8 calipers...
stock or porsche calipers up front, a8 rotors, and S4 rears (complete) in back...
there's a mild upgrade for ya...
A8s will fit oem 16" if you put rotors only
install is straightforward.

Liam

Don't waste the $$ on the rear setup
It will cost you like $800 alone and is SO not worth it. If you want to spend that much, get a Porsche level brake upgrade (such as ECS Tuning Stage 2. Great package using 996 caliper for $1100.

Well, I've only done the fronts with porsche calipers and find it sufficient
some people have stoptechs in front with S4 rears (get them cheap off S4 guys)
here's what you do:
if you have $1000-$1200, get BIRA stage 1 right now (a8 rotors + porsche calipers)
if you have $500 or less, just do A8 rotors
if you have $2000 get stoptechs
voila

What track pads are you running with your Bira set up?
I have the BIRA set up as well and i'm looking for input on good track pads.
I used Porterfield R4's with my stock set up and loved them. I was thinking about getting those for my porsche calipers..but i'm open to suggestions.

I'm actually using oem pagids (for boxter)
they work great when warmed up. I can't believe these are street pads though...it takes at least 3 street corners before being able to brake..
a set of pagids survived an entire day at watkins glen, so I think that's a good test.
I use mintex on the street

Lists everything you need know and buy to perform the installation. Cost is about $500 for front parts and $800 for rear parts ("homeboy" discount at dealer, not including pads since A4 pads can be re-used). Fronts are no more involved than a rotor replacement, rears require minor grinding of the A8 caliper carrier and spacer washers to center the S4 caliper on the A8 rotor. Might be able to avoid machining and spacers using S4 rotors and caliper carriers in the rear with the S4 calipers. The S4 rotors are only slightly smaller than the A8 rears. S4 splash shields will fit either rear rotor (if so inclined).
Should work on FWD although I'm not absolutely sure (Bentley shows the only difference to be the carrier bolts in the rear). Both front and rear work with the 16" 5-spoke wheels.

I have the money, but...
If my stock calipers will work on A8 Rotors I'm gonna save my pennies. I'm running stock suspension and wheels, but I'm thinking about buying a house this summer, which means I'm keeping the car, which may mean Coilovers, 17" wheels/summer tires, tints, etc. <--These mods are gonna put a nice dent in my funds for sure, but nowhere near as bad as a new car would, since I am delusional and can't seem to accept anything under $35K. Thanks for the info Guys!
