Break-in period and long trip
My 99.5 A4 2.8Q Tip has about 520 miles on it. Tomorrow I need to take a long (250 miles roundtrip) highway trip.
It's very tempting to take my A4, but I am worried about properly breaking-in the engine.
Should I play safe and take my old Civic?
Thanks for all your input,
BP

Don't worry (more)...
I will be picking my new A4 on Friday and driving well over 1000 miles over two days. As long as you vary the engine speed a little while you drive, your A4 should be fine. Don't beat on it for a while either.
--Ian.
Less than a week to go.

Don't use the speed control.
If you are on the Interstate for an hour - then pull over to a rest stop or get a coke. Then back on the road. The idea is to induce some dynamic braking using the engine to get oil up around the rings.
Enjoy the trip.
Reggie
98.5 2.8QMS

Maybe I went a little overboard but....
I would slow down a little and downshift to 4th for awhile and then back up to fifth. And I'd very my speed in the gears, never exceeding 4000 rpm.
I'm at 1100 miles now and it's a lot of fun. I definitely felt it run better as I put more miles on it.
John
99.5 1.8tqms
