Breakdown
Driving around Manhattan I had a hell of a day w/ the A4. 1st, it required some cranking to get it started....then driving at a low speed, it died on me. I put her in park and restared...thinking hmmmm...last, while stuck in traffic, power steering went out, alternator went out and it started to overheat.
I looked under the hood and the belt which (am I right about this?) connects the alternator, fan and powersteering is gone.
Okay, no big deal. Can anyone tell me if the hard start and dying problem is related to the belt going on me slowly?
Also, I just brougt the car into another shop for an oil change and wonder if anyone else thinks that when you go get an oil change they should take a look at the belts and hoses. I dunno, next time I should go to Jiffy Lube and look at the belts myself.
I'm getting the car towed to the shop tomorrow (I found a parking spot by the grace of god w/ in 2 blocks of this episode). God D***
it's another relatively common audi 1.8 problem. since you're at it, i'd also order the ac tensioner ($35?) and do that so that won't be a problem down the line.
and of course, if you haven't done the timing belt, change that if you're going to be doing this other stuff. why pay labor 2x?
