apparently it is a pretty big redesign..thus why they will name it B7...
But who knows what it will be like...
We've seen the exterior pics, but the interior is meant to get a major redesign also...and we know that the new 2.0T FSI will be in it...my curiosity would focus on the chassis and if they had time to move the engine weight back further as per the new Audi design policy...
We'll find out in Sept when details are released...

What about this then????
"There's feverish activity in Ingolstadt as Audi engineers undertake a wholesale rethink of the A4 range. Audi boss Martin Winterkorn has won his battle to switch Audi to rear drive platforms so it can compete with BMW in terms of dynamics. But the move means the current car will have to be heavily reworked as a stopgap until an all-new rear drive A4 appears in 2008 or 2009. And although Audi engineers have been spotted checking out the Maserati rear drive component VW will use for its 5-series fighting C1 and the next generation Phaeton, insiders insist complex vibration problems make the Maserati's torque tube setup unsuitable for a car that will require a variety of engine and transmission variants."

That plan was recently canned, the compromise was for moving the engine weight back into the chassis.
Article from August CAR mag...
"Audi's boss isn't going to get the rear-drive platform he wants to take the fight to BMW. VW group chairman Bernd Pieschetsrieder has decided a switch to rear drive would alienate too many existing Audi customers. Instead, he's proposed a compromise plan that will see powertrains in Audi's front-drive and Quattro models moved rearwards to reduce the weight distribution over the front wheels from 65 to 55 percent."
