broken timing belt... what to do?
my timing belt broke yesterday when I was driving and I got it towed to a local dealership. They are quoting me $5000 for the fix. Is there any aftermarket internals that I can get to decrease the price? or even a rebuilt motor or something? Thanks for the help!

lemme give you an idea
intake valves iirc are like $80 each retail
exhaust valves are something like $40-50 each retail.
the utter absurdity here is that a complete reman head costs a dealership $1400ish (with core exchanged)
I was looking up those parts today for a 98 1.8T which is getting a new head because of this very problem @ 92K.
