Buying New 1.8T, need advise re: sport package
I'm excited to buy my first Audi and after much debate have decided to lease a new A4 1.8 T AWD, instead of buying a used A6 2.7T. The A6 will be faster but will cost much more to maintain is what got me.
Anyway, I'm choosing some options here and looking for advise. I'm def getting premium package (leather, sunroof) and cold weather (I live in CT). I want 17" wheels and can't tell whether I should just get them as an option or spring for the extra $250 and get the sport package. Sport comes with stiffer springs and front and rear anti-roll bars. The disadvantage of the sport package is that the 17's come with summer tread instead of all season. So I would need to get separate winter shoes for the car. What do you guys think? Does the sport package make a huge difference where it's worth the extra $250 and the expense of winter tires?
Thanks,
Seth

the b6 boys can help you too, but from personal experience...
get the sport package, and just pick up some winter wheels - the car will be *much* more enjoyable to drive, both in the summer and winter.

Go with the sport package. Definately worth $250. Plus
You are going to buy one set of tires under lease if you have all seasons. If you have to buy Winter tires because of the sport package, this will extend the life of your summer tires. So any way you look at it you will have to buy a set of tires while you are under lease. Moreover, you'll be kicking yourself for not having the sport package and the lower/tighter ride.

whatever the sport package does for handling, its main accomplishment is in the looks department
the car simply looks FUNNY without it, almost allroad like.
Before sport package (with 16" rims):

After sport package (with 18" rims):

I thought the new 1.8T's had the option of all season tires
with the 17" sport package rims? No? Well, anyway, the extra $250 is worth it for the tighter handling you'll see out of the sports package. If you're concerned about tires...run the summers through next Dec., then buy some all seasons and run them year round from then on. Obviously, if you have the space to store a set of extra rims and tires for the alternate seasons, keeping two sets of rims/tires is preferred, but there are other ways to handle it if you can not store 2 sets of wheels.

I disagree. The B6 non-sport is much stiffer than the B5 non-sport was.
After ~10k miles on B6 non-sport, I must say that the sport package is really not that much stiffer (I think the B6 chassis as a whole contributes more than the sport vs. non sport suspension). I had aftermarket suspension on my B5, so I have a good basis for comparison.

B6 non-sport is comparable to the B5 sport package...
Both leave something to be desired in the handling department, with the edge going to the B6. The sport package on the B6 turns up the performance two more clicks in my book.

i agree..the sport package looks great on the b6...
nice and low. i would want stiffer, but i think it looks great stock. non-sport isn't nearly the car the sport is. for the money, i would get sport. wish i had on my car, but doesnt' really matter anymore
