Can an engine controller module be loose?
Ive been having this problem for 2 weeks, Sometimes my car wont start, the starter cranks but it never turns the engine over.
So I decided to VAG it, and found out that I can access all the control modules except the engine controller, it keeps giving a unable to connect to controller Retry? error.
After a few times of retrying it finally is able to access the engine controller and there are no error codes.
So I try to start the car and it works....
So I have no idea whats going on... is it possible the engine controller module wiring is loose?

Sounds more like a computer that is out to lunch...
I suspect it was hung up, and you managed to force a reset with the VAG-Com, if it happens again you might try just pulling the battery and forcing a reset that way. Note to have your radio code before you try it.
