Default Can't sleep....

So I'm almost 100% sure I'm going to make the leap to a T-28 or K04 Turbo, but I need a few things along the way. Which way should I go after rims? Breaks? or FMIC? I'm thinking T-28 or K04? Any feedback on how long they last (avg driver likes to push hard everyonce in a while)? I'm looking to do rims, Brembos, FIMC, then the turbo kit...sound good?

Default Big difference between a T-28 or K04 man...what's your budget..

First mod should be suspension...
Then brakes...along with Light Rims and good tires...
Exhaust...
Then power...and if going down a stage 3 route better get a upgraded clutch...put in a boost gauge here also...and a vag-tool...

FMIC at the end...

Default Pretend I know nothing about cars..

What's the real difference between them? I've already done suspension, ecu, short shift, exhaust. Next are the rims almost 100% sure about that and then breaks. I've heard, and it makes perfect sence that I could blow my stock intercooler with a T-28 or K04. My budget is going to be over the next year of all saving...I'm looking to buy the Turbo and intercooler at once hopefully. Breaks and rims over the summer almost for sure.

Default here's how it goes in our world...

the k04 is a step up from our stock turbos and fits on the stock flange, and produces around 245 MAX. K04 kits usually run around $1700 , which includes the turbo, gaskets, new fuel pressure regulator, new spark plugs, and ecu tuning. T28/GT25 kits are making around 310 on race gas. But, you need a new manifold to run them. There are 2 kits that are widely accepted, the APR Stage 3 (gt25) and the PES T-28 kits. Both are about $4k. Check out the sites i've provided, they'll give you plenty of info

Default Ok so...K04 or T-28? Money being somewhat of an issue ..

I'm assuming the T-28 will take alot longer to install. You think I will notice the K04 alot more than stock w/ chip to be worth $1800+?

Default i can't really comment on the installation time of either

A search would probably yield good results on that one. But, actually at the moment, AWE is having a group buy on k04 kits. 1399 for 97-99.5 cars and 1499 for 2000-2001. Also get 200 off if you have a GIAC chip. But the 00-01's have a k03 'sport' if you will, which allows for a little more power, but i don't know if that applies to you or not. Needless to say there are plenty of people on the forum who are happy with both k04 and t28 upgrades.

awe group buy

Default I've driven both and installed both...

As for installation, the K-04 install is a bit shorter but really not by much. You still need to remove almost the same things to have room (stock airbox, some hoses, etc.) The only real difference between the two as far as installation is concerned is you replace just the FPR on the K-04 while you need to replace the injectors on the T-28. However, that part isn't really difficult. Also, you don't have to remove the stock manifold on the K-04 install although we did when I helped install one due to the cramped space. It was tough to wiggle it out so I loosened the manifold which was very easy. The worst part of the T-28 install is their manifold. Some of the bolts are hard to access with standard wrenches and sockets. However, PES has a new design coming out which makes the manifold install a lot easier. I've yet to see it though.

As far as power is concerned, the T-28 definitely wins. The K-04 is definitely a decent upgrade though for $1500-$1700. The potential is reached very quickly though for a K-04 whereas the T-28 still has more potential for power down the road.

I'm running the T-28 now and love it. If you're going to mod the car, I suggest going big turbo (T-28, APR S3, etc...) but you should really try to get a test drive before making the final decision. That's the only way to really know. As for characteristics, the K-04 has very quick spoolup vs. the T-28 but it reaches a plateau around 5k from the ones that I have driven. The T-28 spoolup takes a bit longer (starting around 3k rpms) but the power keeps coming all the way to redline. I do my around the town driving around 2.5-3k and it's fine for me but when I want the power, I keep the revs around 3.5k and up. All I can say is, let it rip in 3rd gear and you'll know why I went with the T-28.

Default IMHO, it is totally worth it. Ive had t28 and ko4 and they dont really compare.

The first time you drive your car with the new turbo, the grin on your face is priceless. The only other natural high is skydiving and that gets expensive after awhile also. Plus, if you ever want to get innovative, you can go ahead and try new stuff with the t-28 and keep building. (I.E 2.0, WI, FMIC, different software, EFK, test pipe) NOt that you cant do those with the ko4 but your still not going to make as much as a standard t-28 setup with all those mods on a ko4.
