My personal preference is CD
MP players that go through the dash audio cassette player are limited in the high frequency by the electronics of the tape player (has to do with the dolby signal for noise reduction). Also, you are going from digital signal - to a magnetic analog signal - to a magnetic heads (analog signal reader)- to the tape player electronics - to the amps.
With the CD player you are inputing the signals directly to the electronics of the amp.
Kind of simplified.

Kenwood CD and Mp3 player with Cd changer control
I hear they even look good with the A4's red lighting - they can be backlit in red (i'm told)
there are several like this, Awia makes one too - check out www.crutchfield.com for more details

http://www.crutchfield.com</a

I am seriously considering hooking up the Neo 35 MP3 Player with the remote.
I would connect it the the CD changer audio inputs, place the main unit where the changer normally goes and wire the remote somewhere on the dash. Maybe it's small enough to fit in the ashtray.

Go CD! Please, don't plague yourself with MP3's! (...long...)
C'mon, seriously, even with the Bose premium sound I can tell the difference between a CD and an MP3. Plus, what happens when there's MP4 in like a year or so?
Also, there are a lot of options for the Audi, since the deck was originally designed to have a changer :
-Audi Changer
-Aftermarket single disc CD
-Aftermarket tape with / CD Changer controls
-Aftermarket CD with CD Changer controls
-In Dash 6 disc (single DIN!) CD Changer
For the Audi, I'd reccomend the latter two, either the CD player and then have the option of Changer control, or one of the cool 6 disc in dash options like Nakamichi offers (kinda expensive, but fits like a glove and looks like it came from the factory if you get it in Amber).
Also, remember that a cheap computer burner can put MP3's on to a CD, so then you can get the best of all the worlds (just make sure that you find out which decks can play CDR's and which can't).
Hope it helps.
