Default CD changer question - 1997 1.8T

I've been looking for a CD changer for my '97 1.8TQMB, and I think I _might_ have found one.

The guy says it's from his '98 A6 Avant, and claims it should work with my A4. Yes or no?

I have a serial number (no part number) too... I don't want to buy this if it won't work (especially since the guy isn't local!)

TIA,
Brian

Default Alpine vs Panasonic

Well, his claim is it fits all these models...

1995-1997 A6 all
1995-1997 A4 all
1998 A6 wagon
1996-1997 A8
1992-1994 100's

Is there any easy way to visually determine the difference between the Alpine and Panasonic units? For example, the connector to the A4's harness?

BTW, he gave me a serial number of AUZ8ZAVO483507 (I asked for a part number)... anybody know how to turn that into something useful?

Also, he said he tried to plug it into his 2001 A6 sedan, but he couldn't get it to work. I'm going to check over in the A6 forum too.

Cheers,
Brian

Default I believe the change-over was with the 1998.5 A4's with the Concert headunit.....

....the older "Delta" headunit (in the A4 and probably also in the A6) used the Alpine-made changer.

Default Delta = Alpine, Concert = Panasonic

Or, I think that's what I've just been able to find out.

According to Clair Motor Parts, the '98 Avant used the Alpine changer (part 4D0-035-111) - same as my A4, while the '98.5 A4 (and '99 Avants) and up use the Panasonic changer (part 4B0-035-111-A).

So... it looks like my car can use this guy's changer. Kewl.

Cheers,
Brian
