Default The check engine light came on...........

I'm driving a feel a loss of power, look at the instrument cluster and see that the check engine light came on. I went back home, which was only five minutes away and swapped to the stock ECU. No check engine light and I even went for a 10 minute test drive to see if the check engine light would turn on again, which it didn't. I go back home again and swap back to the chipped ECU and now there is no check engine light, but I didn't go for a test drive yet. What should I do next? Switch back to stock and see if anything comes up or keep the chipped ECU in and try to find someone with a VAG in N.NJ? Are there anyother options? I don't think its the coil packs since they were replaced last week. On a another note someone stole one of my Audi Sport valve stem caps, this makes it 7 stolen.

Default Maybe the CEL is for a missing valve stem cap?

Put the chipped ECU back in, and get the car VAG'd when the CEL reappears.

Default

Does the ECU store codes that have occured or do the codes only appear when the CEL is on?

Default It will store the codes, but the act of unplugging the ECU

and leaving it out for some period of time probably caused the codes to be lost.

Default 1st get it vagged to look for codes.

Unless you can hear boost venting (loose hose), it's probably in limp mode, and the codes will point you in the right direction.

Default Just drive down...poke around the Audi cluster in the exhibition area...

more than a few are bound to have vag...just a matter of finding one that won't mind walking out to the general parking area to scan the car for you.
