Check engine light came on last night. Any options other than to get it hooked up to a Vagcom?

Car is a 98.5 1.8T (non-DBW). Manual says it's either polution control stuff or road speed sensors. Any way to narrow that down without the VAGCOM?

So what drives the sensor? Surely all of these items are not connected to the warning light.

Thanks, it's worth checking. Does the seal fail on those or is it just that it's not tight enough?

Default Just not putting back on tight after refueling. It will take a week or so to clear on it's own w/o a

VAG

Default Nothing. Runs and sounds perfect. Boost normal, temps normal, charge normal. It's been K04'd for

50K miles now and no codes thrown. The weather here lately has been colder than normal and ranged between 20F to 32F with snow and slushy road conditions. Lot's of anitlock action so I thought maybe the road speed sensor may have been affected.
