Chip Upgrade

I own a 99.5 A4 quattro and am very interested in doing something to help the acceleration of the car. I have heard that a good chip to buy is the stage one chip from the guys at Total Audi Performance www.tap1.com They say that the chip will increase horsepower by 40 and the air filter will give it another 8. Does anyone know what kind of a difference this will make in acceleration and overal speed? Also if I buy a spare stock chip for the car and put it in when ever i take the car in for service, is there a way that they will know that i have changed out the chip and therefore void my warranty? I appreciate any insight you guys can provide.

Ok start here

First off, there are plenty of good chip options including the TAP, the filter is of little or no consequence, but the chip will deliver significant gains. Check out the link below to an article comparing several chips performance to stock. As for detecting the second ecu, well the answer is yes AND no. The ecu will return a fault code showing that it lost power, but that's it..."hey, I was working on the stereo/the battery died/etc." It might raise an eyebrow in a dealership which is extremely anti modification, otherwise most really don't care.
