Default Cleaning / removing abs sensor

My ABS is starting to chatter at slow speeds and I have read here (and in the archives) that is may be as simple as cleaning my SBS sensors. My dealer did not even look at the car and tells me that I need a new CV joint.

I am not a totally savy diy'er but I'm no fool either. Is cleaning the sensors a hard task? Are they bolted in? Can this be done without removing the wheels? Can this be done by a mere mortal without a lift?

Sorry to sound dumb but any help would be great!

Default Bad wheel bearings can cause the ABS to act up, bad CV joints make clicking noises

1. No, it's really not a hard task; 2. Not sure, but it's pretty clear when you get to them; 3. No, wheel removal is required; 4. Yes.

Thanks Nate. I forgot to say that it's a 01.5. Is there a write up anywhere or pictures of what the sensors look like? I'm asuning that they are behind the calipers.

Default Looks like they are push-in connectors. Just look for some wiring and follow it to

where the wheel bearing is.

Default Haha...the dealer told me the exact same thing. It wasn't Langan Audi was it?

Nate forgot to mention that they may be a total PITA to remove...but it can be done. Just be careful not to break them. I'd try a rag around the sensor and some vise-grips. Again, be careful. I don't believe they're too cheap to replace.

No, it is in Syracuse NY. I'm guessing that they are probably all the same though

Default Well, if you move down to Albany you know where NOT to take it ; )

Hope your problem is easily solved. TBH, I'm having the exact same issue and am too lazy ATM to clean them *shaking head*.
