Code P0011

Code P0011
My wifes 2001 A4 just gave cel and we took it to the local (non Audi) garage after the engine started knocking for the first couple of seconds at start up. After that it goes away and seems fine. Well the code was P0011 which i'm assuming is the cam tensioner. Can anyone tell me if this is something that is a costly fix? The car has 90k on it and has been meticulously kept up on maintenance. Is there an easy fix? It only makes the knocking noise for a couple of seconds at start up and it doesn't matter if it's warmed up or not. Oh and the cel went off after 1 day. Any help would be appreciated.

Is it possible that the work i just had done two weeks ago had anything to do with this problem? Local garage replaced timing belt, tensioners and water pump. I know those parts are in the front of the engine and the chain/cam tensioner is in the rear but was not sure if it is possible that they knocked something out of whack?

The part the sensor is attached to is the cam adjuster unit, PN 058-109-088-E. ~$600 street
You can get it for much less at genuinevwaudiparts.com for around $470. They are an Audi dealer, and many people buy from them here, myself included.
