Cold engine misfire.
I've getting misfires now that it's been getting colder. But just when my motor is cold. I recently switched to NGK BKR7E's. I'm thinking that the colder heat range plug is causing the problem. I was thinking of switching back to BKR6E's. Any thoughts?

Plugs are cheap enough, give them a try
If that doesn't correct it you could have something else going on with the ICM or (rarely on older models) coilpacks.
Sidenote: How is the fit on the EVO FMIC behind the stock bumper? I have read mixed results, but seeing as you also have a '97, maybe that will clarify my decision.

FMIC fits fine behind the stock bumper. But EVOMS doesn't make the same FMIC...more
When I talked to Jordan at EVOMS he said that they were no longer making my FMIC. They had redesigned it to make it easier to ship and cut manufacturing costs. He called mine the big dog FMIC that they no longer make. So yes it fits great...but unless you can find a used one they no longer make it.
