I wouldn't need a new key then? just the electronic part behing it?

No, and not electronics, only the switch, which comes out after you lossen a couple of set-screws. This part is very easy, the steering wheel less so because you have to take the airbag module out first. You should have a set of 12-point drivers (like used on inner CV joints) because the steering wheel bolt likely needs one for removal. As 4Driver said, check out the writeup, and you'll do fine.

IIRC, the airbag module is not in the way. It's mounted on the center hump behind the climate control.

evap canister filled with gas? can you smell gas coming out of the tailpipe?

You're correct; I called it that after looking at the Chilton manual's pictorial (yes I admit having a copy), they call the airbag assembly "airbag module".

Well, I cleaned my MAF sensor, and so far so good. I will see tomorrow, if it keeps starting.
