Default In April of '99 C&D put a Contour SVT into a comparison...

test with a Jetta VR6, An Infiniti G20, a Saab 93, BMW 323i and an A4 1.8T. The power (in that comparo it had the most in the group) got it into 3rd place, but its roughness and well, "Contour-ish" quality and fit and finish relegated it to 3rd place behind the Bimmer and the A4. The A4 won. They said that while not the fastest, the A4 won hands-down in every other catagory. All thats left is a chip and you've got NO grounds left for comparison at all.

The original article

Default Love that Article! Best $25k Sport Sedans......

Showed how much cheese was in that stripped out 323. What were they thinking submitting that car with those 15" tires on steel wheels & hubcaps? And it was still the most expensive car in the round-up..LOL!

To some people all they care about is that little blue propeller...To those I say give them the 323 in that comparo!

Default An absolutely fanstastic sports sedan...

When i was shopping it was either the SVT Contour or the A4 1.8T. The issue comes down to quattro v. FWD, and Ford's betrayal of the Mondeo world platform for the US market. By the time i was ready to buy 2 years ago, it was clear that Ford was de-contenting the Contour, and that the car was on its way out of the market.

Reasonably handsome, superb engine, and a wonderful exhaust note. Sure its cheaper on the inside, but the sticker obviously reflects this. I very much wish the current Mondeo/Contour was available here, its a superb sedan.

Perhaps one day ill buy a 98' SVT Contour, it would be a perfect commuter car.

Cheers
