Control Arms revisited for the n-teenth time :)
I just noticed that the front suspension on my '98 1.8TQM is starting to make those ever-so-popular noises related to failing control arms. I've gone through "search", but couldn't find the definite answer - WAS there a recall for control arms, or not??? If not, how much are the they? I can either replace them by myself, or have my mechanic do it for me...

I'm quite sure there was, but your VIN # had to be between a certain range to qualify...
There's a website on the internet dedicated specifically to automotive recalls and it's on that page, I just can't remember the URL even though it's been posted here a zillion times.

There never was a recall on control arms, however......
....some folks have been able to get Audi to pick up part of the repair bill tab as a "goodwill" gesture. Having a dealer who will "go to bat" for you is helpful.
The control arms range in price depending on which one (or ones) need replacing. I paid about $250 or so for one lower arm + $150 or so for the install at an independant garage.
