Default Coolant Problem... (Somewhat Long)

I have been having a overheating problem since I got my car. My car overheats but only one mark past (sometimes it will get to 2 marks past but rarely) and it will cool down if I blast the heat or get more air going to the engine. I also noticed it only really gets hot when the oil temp reaches its normal temperatures... I just paid 569.00 for the fan clutch to be replaced and a tune up because the stealership said "that was what it was"... but it wasn't. I just noticed though that my coolant resevoir is really old (original) and is cracked and leaking... Could this be the problem that it is setting off the temp to be faulty, its suppose to be under pressure and I am guessing this is it because a crack would screw it all up. I'll be really pissed because I paid for a fan clutch when I know that wasn't what it was, please reply, Thanks.

Default 20 bucks says thats your problem

after the car has been running, check the hoses and see if they are filled will coolant (just squeeze them). being that the system is no long pressurized is sure to throw a kink into your engine temps. get that replaced and i think you'll be good to go

I hate stealerships... Is this a big job to replace this thing too? I have the part I bought it from them today, but to flush it and install it hard?

Default draing the coolant is easy....

there's two hoses, an uppper and a lower. disconnect them and hold a bucket/drainpan/whatever. i wouldnt imagine swapping the resevoir out being hard, but i've never done it. the only snag i could see is making sure the hoses are properly attached to the new resevoir to ensure no leaks and a pressurized system

Default DING....winnah..you got it..

Have you ever noticed older cars without pressurised reservoirs had pressure cap just on the radiator. You reeeeeaally need to hold in that pressure to keep the cooling under control not to mention the coolant loss.

Default 15 minutes to change. $37 on-line with new cap

The old cap sometimes won't fit the new reservoir. (they redesigned the reservoir).
