Coolant types
My recently purchased 2001 A4 1.8TQ Avant has green coolant. I'm planning to flush the cooling system and heater core soon. Initially I was planning to refill with G12.
However a DIY I recently read for flushing the system recommended re-filling with whatever was there to start with, rather than risk inadvertent mixing of the two different types. This was a bit of a surprise to me. I'd assumed that running the engine up to temp with water and draining again would be sufficient to completely evacuate the system of the existing coolant formula.
How thorough is a flush job at clearing out the old coolant? Maybe it's as simple as doing the water-flush twice.

I've had good experiences with DEI Radiator Relief Flush. It's very simple to use too. Simply drain your old coolant, close drain, add this to your reservoir then add water. Once your cooling system is refilled with water and DEI Radiator Relief Flush, run the vehicle with the heat on for 15 minutes. Once you've completed 15 minutes drain everything and refill with G13 coolant (new industry standard coolant for all VW/Audi vehicles)
