Default Corrosion on numberplate light unit

I have an audi a4 avant 2.4se which is five years old and has corrision in the the tailgate light holder unit.

Have asked coachworks to request audi to assume liability, but doubt i have much of a chance unless i can find others with the same problem.

Coachworks said unit is made of aluminium and wonder if electrolytic reaction between steel body or wiring is causing problem. Welcome any thoughts and experiences.

Default I've had a similar problem as well on my '97 1.8T

Coca-Cola or Pepsi will remove corrision like nobody's business, and when that's done use a pencil eraser to detail it. After that, sand it down with some high grit paper (both contacts), and check the gasket to make sure water doesn't leak in. Hope that helps!

Default mine just went bad on a 00 a4. dealer said it'll cost

100 to fix the whole unit, including the 2 lights.

seems kind of bunk for that to go bad on it.
