Crap... I overbuffed with the polishing compound to get some crap off the paint...
Is this going to come out if I do a cut polish and wax it? or have i permanently removed the shine I can get from my paint? It hardly seemed like i rubbed it that long at the time...
See the 2 inch round buff mark?

i made this mistake once, but it was b/c i wetsanded too much. That spot looks normal from compound
and should come out w/ polish....that is unless you saw black paint on your rag. Then maybe not.
I had to repaint my door in order to fix my wetsanding mistake.

Phew...no black paint on rag! So without cut polish, is there an easier way?
would just waxing get it back to its old self? I assume claybaring won't do anything...
(as you can probably tell by now from my post, I'm not a detail freak and need to get someone else to do it! LOL!)

Just a regular swirl mark remover should be able to get that out
but make sure that the applicator you're using isnt dirty or isnt made of anything that can scratch the paint. I've seen friends made the same marks on their car with a "clean" towel

I used the same polishing compound on a spot on my hood and the same thing happened
I used a orbital buffer and it came out with some polish. I would imagine any swirl mark/scratch remover should work. My buffer seemed to easily buff it right out.

PSA: Always start with the LEAST aggressive product first when trying to remove stuff from paint.
I always start with a general surface cleaning solvent (pre-paint prep like BASF "pre kleano") which will remove most surface contaminants without touching the paint. Then I move to a cleaner wax like Meguires Cleaner Wax. If that doesn't do it, then I work into mildly abrasive rubbing coumpounds before working through to the more abrasive compounds.
Sage advice from my Dad.
