HOW MUCH OF A PAIN IS IT TO DO THE DRIVERS SIDE CV BOOT??

sorry the program at my work requires all caps, but seriously its not that bad?? is there any way to tell if the cv joint is bad?

Default I opted to just replace the axle on my A6. $174 from raxles.com....

and you get new joints, new boots, new bolts, and a prepaid waybill to send your core back to them. Buy about 5 cans of brake cleaner to clean up the greasy mess left by the broken boot.

Default If you hear clicking, then the joint needs replacing. If not, you could probably just clean and...

...relube it. There's a couple of writeups in the tech section, which I used successfully.

Default It connects to the transmission w/8 (at least I think it was 8) bolts. You'll need...

a polydrive/triplesquare socket. I forget what size it was. I used an air impact gun and a long impact 1/2" extension to get them from the wheel well once I had the upper control arms and tie rod free of the spindle.

You'll also want to break the axle bolt free before you remove the tire and the car is on the ground. That's a big metric hex socket...might be a 17 (but I've forgotten).
