Default They wear out with time/mileage

Was it the same one both times, or one on each side? One of mine went at 70K and the other at 80K.

Default You CV joint is going bad...

If you are hearing the noise while taking corneres, the joint is most likely going bad. Boots do get torn on cars and need periodic inspection. If a torn boot is left unattended long enough, the CV joint will suffer the consequences.

Default It could be road debris that caused the tear....

Once the boot is open, the grease leaks out and dirt gets in, and before you know it, the CV joint starts making noises.

I doubt how hard you drive has anything to do with the boot tearing. My understanding is that either the boot rubber/plastic dries out in time and cracks, or something hits it hard enough to damage it.

Default Was it installed by a dealer?

There are some aftermarket boots that aren't all that reliable. There are even two piece boots where you screw the two halves together - avoids having to remove axles.

Mine were not dealer installed (non-OEM), but they've held up well so far. One has 40K and the other has 30K miles on it.

Kyle

PS. I don't think it has much to do with your driving style.
