Deciding btwn A4, and Jetta 1.8T. Just found out I got promoted 15min ago! (more)
Now all I need help on is deciding the color of my new A4. I have a black Galant currently and this car good in only black. The A4 looks great in any color...But I like the black, silver, and maybe pelican.
Silver looks great with a tint, black just plain looks great (but what a PAIN), I saw a pelican one, but I need to see one up close. I also need to pick an atmosphere and seat color (black, with onyx and ecru seats, or silver with ambient and opal seats, or pelican with all onyx)
It will be a 1.8T Quattro stick with leatherette.

I have owned black; I own silver. (More...)
My first A4 was black. It was gorgeous when clean, but that never seemed to last more than a day or two; a "pain" as you accurately noted. My current silver A4 does such a good job of hiding dirt, and looking good even with a film of light grime, that I never would go back. No opinion on the pelican, but anything dark requires great dedication.
Like my black A4, I have an opal leather interior in the silver one. Though I originally wanted a black interior to compliment the exterior, I have no regrets that I ended up with opal.
Best of luck with whatever you choose.

So the Jetta is out??
I went with silver too after having owned a black car. I LOVE it. The light silver currently offered looks great even after 3 weeks in rain!
I went with the onyx interior. In my opinion, the upper part of the dashboard should be black, no exceptions! That rules out everything but the ambition. Ecru is nice too!

yup, the Jetta is out. I really like the performance of it, but like the Audi better. I was just not willing to pay $6,000 more, now I can :}

Dealer has Silver with opal....
Thanks, the dealer has a silver with opal interior, I really like that combo. It's a leftover '99 so I'm not interested in that one. Unless they want to give a stellar deal on it.

My opinion:
If you are just looking for a "car" and are not going to pay that much attention to it, get the silver.
If you want to showcase the technological beauty of the A4, get black - there is no classier color. I have Santorin blue which is similar in terms of cleaning demands, but to me the sublime pleasure of sitting in a new-looking 8-month-old car is worth washing and vaccuuming every week or two.
After having Santorin/Onyx, I recommend black on black. I.e. don't overlook this combo even though the first impulse might be a light interior. Black/onyx is a MEAN combo. Especially with tint.
Do not get the '99. Get '00 or above - xenons alone are worth this change, plus subtle changes to sport suspension. Just a better value, plus a newer car.
