there is a slightly different piece of plastic around the shift boot base. Well that nice little piece of plastic makes it much harder to get at one particular bolt... the bolt that allows you to slide the shifter mount fore and aft on its rails. JOY FOR PITA!
But after an hour of tinkering with it it went in, and it works properly, just as it was meant to.
if you've got a pushdown reverse, make sure that you re-install the pieces the way they came off. I accidentally put the sleeve back on backwards... that ******* sucked! didnt realize it till the reverse pushdown wasnt working as it does on my car (over, down, then back) So it was time to re-do the installation after flipping the cuff around the other way... JOY FOR AUDI making everything hard to do!
That is all for now

nope.... the parts are identical to the 96 parts..... my shifter is actually from a 99.5
because I trashed my original one working on that tech article in the tech section. Blake donated his old one to my car. (blake is a good guy)
when moded the pushdown is basically eliminated except for when you shift into reverse. To go into reverse you have to push the shifter over, then down and pull back. The bobble is gone, you can no longer bounce your fist off of the thing and let it spring back up. I like how they turn out once modded, much better feel than stock, shorter throw, it also sits lower.. just looks and feels a lot better... and for $6 in parts... how can you go wrong! Hmm lemme see $200 short shifter kit or $6 to mod the stock one???? lol.

it turned out ok....
but the day after I got back from fall show and go here in NJ... they tried breaking in AGAIN. So I got 1 show out of my new door... I had that door for 4 weeks.
So I'm on my 3rd drivers door. I was very unhappy to say the least.

That sucks man....
I guess that's one good thing about living in the boondocks - I never had a problem with anyone trying to break into my car...
Good to hear you got your accident insurance stuff figured out though. Could have been worse I guess
