that would be your problem - they never made that...........
The 98.0 is also referred to as the "early 98". This is because when the 30V engine became available, they started shipping it in cars. These cars were otherwise 97s with a 30V engine. They called them 98's (we call them 98.0).
No changes were made to the 1.8T, so there really wasn't a 98.0 1.8T.
When the real (normal) time frame came around to make the next year car (1998's), Audi made a variety of changes. Since they already called that 30V car a 98, the ones with the changes were called 98.5s. These changes were applied to both the 1.8T and the 2.8.
My website is back up, so check it out for Pictures of the differences to A4s over the years:

Tech list not completely right
I have a 98.0, delivered in July of 97. There are a couple of things which don't agree with the Tech article on '98 -vs- '98.5 A4.
"7.Side airbags (in seat bolsters)" My 98.0 has side airbags in the seat bolsters.
"9.Center armrest storage compartment release latch is lift-to-open vs. slide-left-to-open" My 98.0 has the lift-to-open compartment.
Audi must have made some changes at different times.
