disaster strikes (repost with pics)
i installed fron pads and rotors, and took the car out for a bedding run. after a few slow stops, from 20-30mph, i hit the brakes doing 50 pretty hard. to my dismay, the car comes to a groaning halt, and i could hear knocking/grinding coming from the front right wheel. needless to say, i wasn't going to drive it anywhere else, so i got it towed back to my house. this happened yesterday, and i was too distraught to worry about it to much then, but heres a picture of the rotor in question. there looks like some sort of melted metallic material on the rotors, as well as some kind of metallic buildup in the slots. i realize you're supposed to let the pads cool down while the car is moving, but i didn't want to drive it at all at the time. the only other thing i can think of is that i didn't relube the caliper pins. they seemed to be ok. im thinking this mystery substance on my rotors might be fresh pad material that didn't have time to spread out properly cause i didn't let the pads cool down while the car was moving. also, should the rotors be that blackened already, after only 15 mins of driving?....
